Ice-dammed lake
Location: Northwest margin of Aktineq Glacier (B17), Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada
Outlet into lateral meltwater channel of lake dammed by Aktineq Glacier. Note the high sediment load in water; high, unstable lateral margin of Aktineq Glacier; and raised shorelines indicating higher lake levels when Aktineq Glacier was more extensive. The view toward the snout of Aktineq Glacier. Pond Inlet, and Baffin Island can be seen in the distance. Meltwater channels depicted in images 0011 and 0012 are cut into the bedrock prominence in the extreme upper left corner of the image (also see, McCuaig, 1994, plate 4.8).
